This is a matte painting I produced depicting a mining facility in a grim, barren environment.

The structure on the right is a temple - I was thinking about how hundreds of years ago, peoples lives were dominated by work and the church, and how in small communities your home was probably within a short walk of both.

I wanted this environment to feel like an oppressive place to work, and the idea of an adjacent futuristic temple staring over everything seemed to fit in.
